Meet K. Meena. She is currently the Admin Manager in the Chennai branch of Greaves Cotton. Let’s get to know her and her extraordinary journey with Greaves so far. At a time when women were not allowed to work, Meena decided to pursue her ambition and challenge gender narratives. Her determined and resolute attitude played an important role in shaping her career, helping her support her family financially. She toiled hard and got trained on telephone operation, shorthand, typewriting, and telex operation courses to secure a permanent role as a Telephone and Telex Operator in Greaves Cotton for the South Regional Office (SRO). She served in various positions, be it secretarial roles for senior leaders, handling administrative activities or HR support for SRO.
She learnt and honed new skills each time without any hesitation. What we have learned so far through her story is that there is no substitute for hard work. You have to work hard towards your goal to hit the bull’s eye. The second key takeaway is that learning has no age bar and is a continuous process at every stage of life. Ask her how she feels about her journey with Greaves Cotton so far and she quips, “Greaves has always taken exceptional steps to show that this organization cares for their employees and this is what makes it a special place for me and for a lot of other people.” Her story is a classic example of passion, dedication, and determination of a woman. She has been associated with the organization for over three decades and that speaks volumes of the relationship she shares with it. If you reflect on this story, what you can see is a strong woman who has broken the age-old shackles and conventions of the society. She has risen up to the challenges, effectively turning her struggles into triumphs.
