The electrifying move

The front page of the newspaper got my attention when I saw visual of children going to school wearing air filter masks on their face. The headline said – “All schools shutdown. AQI rises to severe levels”. Caught in the hustle and bustle of daily life, it makes me wonder am I doing the right thing? Am I making the world a better place? Will my children and their children have better air to breathe, food to eat and water to drink then what I am getting now? There is a popular saying that goes like this –   ” If you are only taking and receiving and not contributing back then are you creating a unsustainable ecosystem”
Going by the rising Pollution levels in the metro cities in India, I am sure the day is not far when people will be forced to wear air purifying masks and carry portable oxygen cylinders in their bag just like they carry a bottle of water.  This has already started to happen in Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong and Dubai etc. So what is the way out here? Caught in the business of life what is the little thing that you can do which will make you feel that you have atleast played your part in building a better ecosystem. Just as my excitement of buying a 2W was beginning to dampen, my attention fell on a quarter page news article which talked about steps taken by the government to build EV charging infrastructure. 100s of stores planned initially with a very economical charging cost.
This news coverage comes as the result of increasing awareness and availability of the electric bikes. The government’s initiative in facilitating purchase of electric vehicles by opening charging corridors and incentivising the sale. The electric scooter got me thinking, a zero pollution bike, Great in looks and excellent in performance and mileage. Some questions that came into my mind and the answers I sought –
A – Going by the amount of traffic, there is no space to speed up.
A – I don’t think that will be a worry, I will keep it charged overnight or charge it in office while I continue to work.
A – Yes, it will, saw the payload capacity and it approves.
A – Don’t think so! The manufacturers have taken care of insulating the motor-battery and electronics.
